Institute of Medicine

Institute of Medicine (IOM) was established in 1972 under Tribhuvan University with the mandate and the responsibility of training all the categories of health manpower needed in the
country. Within the first decade of its establishment It developed a total of 22 campuses scattered over the country. IOM was established with the following goals:

  • Produce of human resources for health services
  • Provide health services through its health institutions
  • Conduct research in health sciences

There are a number of academic courses in different disciplines of health sciences. At present
it has 7 constituent campuses and 15 affiliated colleges.

Research Department, IOM

Research Department was established in 2064 BS, and the department Work plan was approved by executive body of IOM Under research committee. This department is transferred to 4th floor of BP Koirala Center for ophthalmic Studies, Maharajgunj. Some of work conducted in department are as follows:

  • Promoting research.
  • Liasoning with IRB for review of research proposals.
  • Publication of JIOM 

Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) was established in the purpose of assisting in fulfilling Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) main goals, which are to excel in Medical Education, Service and Research.

IOM being a premier institute has lots of data, research and to keep up with the advances in medicine, there was a great need for its own information technology center. In this age of Global Village, the need to excel in one’s own objectives is assisted only by information technology.

Field Training Centre, Chautara

The centre was established mainly for seminar and the community training for medical students. This centre also has mess hall & lodging facilities for around 25 persons.
